NSH has an acquisition strategy that is well thought out and an important part of the company's long-term value-creation plan.

NSH has acquired 12 surgical facilities, leveraging NSH’s development and operational teams and building upon the strength of these great physician-owned surgical hospitals and ASCs.

As acquisitions are a key part of NSH’s growth strategy, we focus on strong performers in attractive markets whose results will benefit from a partnership with NSH.  In partnering with physician-owned entities, we seek to achieve incremental topline growth and leading market position via NSH’s operational guidance and in-market recruiting and development efforts. NSH has a decentralized philosophy that focuses on maintaining and enhancing the strengths of the surgical facility.

All of our partnerships have been unique in their financial structure, according to the needs of the seller and NSH, and some successful deal structures have been partial ownership and / or 3-way joint venture agreements.  Our acquisitions have helped NSH and our partners achieve superior results for patients, physician partners/shareholders, and our teams.  

NSH believes that partnerships and 3-way joint ventures include defining the strategic rationale of a partnership, identifying its appropriate organizational and governance structures, and managing it stringently to achieve desired goals.

Development Leadership
Dennis D. Solheim, Executive Vice President, Development

Mr. Solheim is a co-founder of NSH. He also co-founded NSC and was responsible for all of its acquisition and development activity.  His responsibilities included the development of NSC’s surgical hospital strategy that included the building of surgical hospitals and the conversion of surgery centers into surgical hospitals.  Mr. Solheim has been in the healthcare business most of his professional career, initially as a practice manager and then in the development of surgery facilities with Medical Care International and NSC.


Ben Jacobs, Chief Development Officer

Ben Jacobs serves as Senior Vice President, Acquisitions for NSH. Prior to joining NSH in 2014, Mr. Jacobs served as Vice President of Development for Surgical Care Affiliates, Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for DaVita Healthcare Partners, and Vice President of Development for CVS Caremark Corporation. Mr. Jacobs began his career as a corporate attorney at the law firm of Jones Walker in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Jacobs holds a B.A from Washington & Lee University and a J.D from Tulane University Law School.
